Vaught Hemingway Stadium Oxford, MS
Nestled within the historic University of Mississippi campus, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium stands as a symbol of pride and tradition for Ole Miss football fans. Since its inception in 1915, the stadium has undergone numerous expansions and renovations, evolving into the modern, state-of-the-art facility it is today. With a seating capacity of over 64,000, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is the largest stadium in Mississippi and an electrifying venue for college football enthusiasts.
Originally known as Hemingway Stadium, the venue was named after Judge William Hemingway, a former professor and chairman of the university’s Committee on Athletics. In 1982, the stadium was renamed Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to honor legendary Ole Miss football coach John Howard Vaught, who led the team to six Southeastern Conference (SEC) titles and 18 bowl game appearances during his tenure from 1947 to 1970.
Over the years, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium has undergone several expansions and improvements, including the addition of luxury suites, club seating, and video boards. In 2016, the stadium’s north end zone was enclosed, increasing the seating capacity and creating a fully enclosed bowl that amplifies crowd noise and enhances the game-day atmosphere.
Attending a game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is a rite of passage for Ole Miss students, alumni, and fans alike. The excitement begins long before kickoff, with fans gathering at The Grove, a 10-acre park located just steps from the stadium. This picturesque spot serves as the epicenter of Ole Miss tailgating, where fans dressed in red and blue come together to enjoy food, drinks, and camaraderie.
Inside the stadium, the energy is palpable as fans cheer on the Rebels with iconic chants and songs. The Pride of the South, Ole Miss’ marching band, adds to the atmosphere with their lively performances and the playing of the university’s fight song, “Forward Rebels.”
Throughout the game, fans can enjoy a variety of concessions featuring traditional stadium fare, as well as local favorites like barbecue and southern-style cuisine. The recent addition of beer sales within the stadium offers fans yet another way to enhance their game-day experience.
Located in Oxford, Mississippi, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is easily accessible by car, with ample parking available on campus and in the surrounding area. On game days, visitors can take advantage of the complimentary shuttle service provided by Ole Miss Athletics, which transports fans from designated parking areas to the stadium.
